Large Format Prints — Everything You Should Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Size

Why only one size?

Every See Through Walls image is created in a 5:7 ratio, in 50 x 70cm. Large enough to anchor a room, but consistent enough to keep production costs down without compromising on quality or on how many new images join the collection.

Requiring just half a metre of wall space, these prints hold their own in any room

The Images

How unique are they?

Every image here is credited to one photographer and won’t be licensed or reproduced by any other source. Each print is hand-embossed by me personally before it ships. The mark of the studio, and your assurance that what you’re holding is the real thing.

Who’s the Photographer behind See Through Walls?

See Through Walls is the project of British photographer SJ Pirie. Check out the about page for the full story.

Is AI used in creating these images?

No — every photograph in the collection is taken, composed and printed by me. Nothing here is AI-generated, AI-enhanced, or AI-upscaled. The camera, the light, and the decision to press the shutter are all mine.

N.B. Some interior/lifestyle images used elsewhere on the site to show how a print might look in a room are AI-generated or stock imagery, used for illustration only — never the artwork itself.

What’s with the three-word titles?

Inspired by scientific naming conventions and the classification of plant subspecies, I’ve adopted a three-word system that sometimes evokes a feeling or meaning behind the image, and sometimes is simply pleasing in its own abstract way. Consider them clues, not answers.

The Prints

How are the prints produced?

Every print is created using an electrophotographic imaging process — a sophisticated technique using liquid toner made of extremely fine pigments suspended in a liquid. The result is a sharp, well-defined image with a smooth, silky finish that captures the detail and colour of the original photograph. Printed on 250gsm FSC® certified silk art paper, sourced from responsibly managed forests.

Will the print fade over time?

These prints aren’t archival-grade, but that’s a deliberate choice, not an oversight. Archival paper and inks push production costs (and the price you’d pay) considerably higher, and keeping prints accessible at £37 means working within that constraint. Keep yours out of direct, prolonged sunlight, and it’ll hold its colour well for years. As with any print, extended direct sun exposure will cause some fading over time — true of any photograph or artwork on paper, archival or not.

Do the prints have a border, or come with mounts?

Every print has a white border included in the print itself (as shown), though this isn’t a card mount of the kind you sometimes see with art prints. The border runs slightly wider above and below the image than at the sides — a deliberate style choice, and one that also works well with magnetic print hangers, as well as frames.

If you’d prefer a bespoke mount, ask your local picture framer. Alternatively, you can crop the print to fit a smaller, borderless frame.

How are the prints packaged?

Prints are rolled and boxed in specialised triangular cardboard tubes – 100% recyclable, with no plastic end-caps – chosen to minimise waste and maximise protection in transit.

Note: rolled prints need to lie flat for 24 hours before hanging, to let the paper fibres relax and lose most of the curl from rolling.

Can you provide Picture Frames?

We don’t offer frames ourselves, but every print here fits a uniform 50cm x 70cm frame, widely available off the shelf. At the time of writing, Ikea, Dunelm, Hobbycraft and JYSK all stock stylish budget options with lightweight, safe plexiglass. Habitat and Argos offer glass-fronted frames, and if you’d like something more personal, including mount options, I’d always recommend supporting a local picture framer.

Print hangers are a great option if you like to switch things up regularly. Or get creative – paste them up, peg them to a wire, or hold them with magnets. Have fun with it.

Shipping & Returns

How long will delivery take?

Orders are shipped within 2–3 days, unless I’m travelling. If that’s the case, I’ll post the next dispatch date on the site so you know what to expect.

UK orders go via Royal Mail Tracked 48 (1-2 day service).

EU and USA orders ship via Royal Mail International Tracked, typically 3–5 working days to the EU and 5–7 working days to the USA – though customs clearance and handover to the local postal service (USPS in the US; La Poste, Deutsche Post, Correos, etc. in the EU) can add anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, especially during busier periods.

Will I be charged customs or import fees?

No — all EU and US orders are shipped DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), meaning any import duties are already covered in your £11 shipping charge. There’s nothing extra to pay when your print arrives.

What if I want to return or exchange my print?

UK orders come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If a print isn’t right for your space, you can exchange it for another within 14 days of delivery, or return it for a refund within 30 days. Change-of-mind returns are customer-paid for shipping – we’d recommend a tracked, insured service, since we can’t refund anything lost or damaged in transit. To keep prints in resellable, low-waste condition, please return them in the original triangular tube.

International orders (outside the UK) are final sale and aren’t eligible for change-of-mind returns or exchanges, due to the shipping distance involved – but damaged orders are always covered, wherever you are.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Get in touch within 48 hours of delivery with a photo of the damage – of the tube itself if it arrived visibly crushed or torn, and of the print if that’s affected too – and we’ll sort a replacement or refund. If you’re in when it’s delivered and the packaging looks compromised, signing for it as “damaged” with the courier helps too. Rather than asking for damaged prints to be shipped back, we’ll ask you to recycle the paper and cardboard locally instead – no return journey, no extra emissions.

Email hello[at]seethroughwalls.co.uk with your order number and photos to get started.

Can I have delivery shipped next day, guaranteed?

Not guaranteed, no — every print is packed and shipped by me personally, and I’m not always at the studio if I’m out in the field with a camera. If you’ve got a specific deadline, get in touch, and I’ll do what I can to accommodate it.
